I much prefer the new you

Ha! So I replaced the pink links with some stylish black ones (heh) and whipped up a quick header-banner thing in PhotoShop with pics of Arthur and Sophia...the symbolism of which I won't go into here. The colour boxes leave me space for more images as I find them. I don't quite like the salmon-coloured quote box on the right but won't spend any more time on it all for now.

A new face in hell

Ok, so here's the new look. Hmmm, I'll have to dig into the CSS and do something about the pink links, otherwise it looks ok. I could also give over half a day to doing my own template...but life's to short for that.

Cold cod

I had the misfortune of hearing 'Fix You' (or something) by Coldplay today. It really is one of the most awful tracks I've ever heard, worse than the Cardiacs, and that's saying something. Coldplay are so awful it makes me swoon (heh!), the very thought of them make me feel faint. They are just so horrible that words fail me.

So, to help us all along, here is a wonderful (legit) MP3 called 'Hi Ho Silver' from Freakwater's fab new album.

Dream 23

|
Last night I almost had a lucid dream. I dreamt I was a burglar and was climbing up a high wall to break into someone's house. I thought to myself 'ohhh, I'll hurt myself if I fall' and then I thought 'ah...it will be okay because I'm dreaming!'. And with that I just went back into the dream and forgot I knew it was a dream... if you see what I mean. Man, that was frustrating!

I'm on an web accessibility course this week (two days). The first day (today) was excellent, I really feel I'm getting some very useful tools to help me check over the endless web front-ends that various people want to whack up onto my work's website. I found yet another 'integral' website coded completely in Flash. I can't believe these people, they take a two week 'multimedia' course and then inflict their unusable websites on the rest of us.

I'm bored of supporting Chelsea FC, it's no fun any more, I want some misery! I think I'll start watching Ely City FC, come on you Robins!

No meditation tonight, I drank two bottles of Tiger beer with Mel and Jo, that's why I'm here, fooling about on the web. See yah!

I watched I ♥ Huckabees last night and it's quite the best film I've seen all year. Jo and I laughed at the at the film and at each other - we both so strongly represent the two sides of the existentialist investigators in our own relationship...

I found a surpisingly good interview with the director, David O. Russell, on a Christian website (!).

Oh, I'm so horriblely busy at work right now, no time for nothing...what a way to live. Also, got hold of the new Freakwater CD which is just divine. The gals may well be coming over to the UK next year...wow, just imagine that.

A Single Excellent Night

|
I found these four paragraphs by the Buddha from a talk given by Shaila Catherine titled "What is Vipassana?":

"Let me not revive the past
Or on the future build my hopes;
For the past has been left behind
And the future has not been reached.

Instead with Insight let me see
Each presently arisen state;
Let me know that and be sure of it,
Invincibly, unshakably.

Today the effort must be made;
Tomorrow Death may come, who knows?
No bargain with Mortality
Can keep him and his hordes away.

But one who dwells thus ardently,
Relentlessly, by day , by night.
It is she, the Peaceful Sage has said,
Who has had a single excellent night."

- from Buddha's Discourses MN 131

The lines state the case for contemplation, for awareness, for wakefulness in such a precise, clear and obvious manner.
