A Swell Map...

  • farewell Nikki Sudden. As a founder member of the Swell Maps you gave me, and many of my friends, many happy moments and lots of laughs.
  • I've started dream journaling again in an attempt to up my lucid dream rate. I love catching my dreams, and reading them back after a time is fun and insightful. I opened a Gmail account just for my dream log, its email search and labeling function makes Gmail a powerful tool for storing and retrieving dreams. I'll write up a guide to making best use of it sometime soon.
  • My one month sobriety thing comes to an end this evening. This time tomorrow I'll have a lovely glass of wine, or a nice bitter, or a cold Belgium beer, or, or, or...

Time is waiting in the wings (he speaks of senseless things)

I read Jeanette Winterson's 'Gut Symmetries', which I didn't enjoy at all. The only thing I did like was her definition of Time:
"A concept arising from change experienced or observed.
A quantity measured by the angle through which the sun turns on its axis.
A moment in which things happen."
Worth remembering...and possibly acting on.

Miles from Nowhere

I've had a bit of a cold so haven't really been posting or checking other blogs. Am still feeling a bit weak and fuzzy but here's a very quick update on what's going on:

1. Haven't had a drink all month and boy, could I do with a large glass of wine (an old Rioja would be my choice but anything half decent would do). Only ten more days to go!

2. I finished 'The Line of Beauty' by Alan Hollinghurst and it was a truly wonderful read. Beautifully written, funny and moving. An accurate portrayal of the UK in the 80s and all that that entailed. Great stuff. Already one of the best books I've read this year.

Here's a thoughtful review of the book by David Womersley.

3. I saw Drubwang Tsoknyi Rinpoche III give a talk in London last week, a great experience. The rinpoche is a great talker, funny and wise.

4. I got my sexy black IPod!

The Maids Head - Wicken

Outside The Maids Head

So, I'm trying out my new Flickr account with a shot of my sister (Lucy), Harry and me outside the the Maids Head pub in the village of Wicken.

We had lunch in the pub and it was just great, a first-class sunday roast. One thing though, don't bother ordering a 'child sized' portion for your four year old, he/she will only end up pinching food from your plate, as HB did!

Yes, so you can see what I've spent the last few hours doing...two things that will have to wait for another time:

1) How do I get my blog page title back?
2) How can align the 'Name:martin Location:United Kingdom' text so it's flush with the links & archive?

Hmmm, well I ain't spending anymore time over it. The boy in the picture is my son Harry on a morning out at the glorious Wicken Fen.
