Body and Soul

|
I saw my doctor today, told him about the aches in my legs and the pins & needles and pain in my right arm. He agreed with me that both were work-related. My legs are unhappy with four hours commuting and my arm is fed up with pushing a mouse around all day. My body is fed up with my job, as is my psyche.

So what to do? What else can I do? I can manage websites, I get a decent wage...I have one or two ideas, dreams, fantasies of what I could do. But they are all so totally unlikely...

I like/dislike my job. I don't much like the commute, I'm unhappy that parts of my body are not happy. My dreams jobs are outrageous fantasies, or are they? I really don't know even where to begin on this one.

I think I took this link from Integral Practice. It's worth looking at. Kind of interesting.

martin, you say that parts of your body are unhappy with commuting, mouse pushing, etc. which parts are comfortable and/or happy? the parts that are unhappy on the commute, when are they happy?
the mind commands the body to action, sensation and pain. this comes as a shock to some, but i sense that you are able to make these distinctions and feel the difference inside. a dialog with the body is the begining of having better choices for feelings.
cheers, alistair.

I did 4 hours commuting (minimum!!! with all going well on train and tubes) if for about 18 mths. It was throttling both body and mind. I’ve since moved and the commute is now ½ an hour. It’s like loosing a huge burden I’ve been carrying around. Cut the commuting Martin – either move closer to the work or get another job closer to home - once that is outta the way, you can concentrate on the more important things in life.

alistair: yes, you're quite right, paying attention to the body is key, though it takes work for the mind to remember and practice this

donavon: yep! I opened accounts at two of the big online job agencies today, so let's see what happens. Life is too short to spend up to five hours commuting. Though I still have to work out how to get out of IT and into something totally new.
